JGLC and Greene Transport share Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative through the CVSA and Truckers against trafficking. Earlier this year, commercial motor vehicle law enforcement personnel and industry professionals from Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. participated in the Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (HTAI). The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) spearheaded this annual five-day campaign, inviting its law enforcement and industry/association members to raise awareness and train individuals on recognizing and responding to human trafficking.
United Efforts in Raising Awareness
Fifty-one jurisdictions participated in this year’s HTAI, with various activities aimed at combating human trafficking. Law enforcement officers and industry members engaged in numerous initiatives:
– Distributing human trafficking information to drivers during inspections.
– Observing and speaking with passengers in trucks to monitor for signs of trafficking.
– Handing out flyers and wallet cards and speaking to the public at truck stops, city halls, train and bus stations, ports of entry, DMV offices, and weigh stations.
– Displaying the human trafficking hotline on digital billboards.
– Sharing educational content on social media platforms.
– Including brief information about human trafficking in compliance review emails.
– Providing training to motor carriers on awareness and prevention.
– Issuing news releases, holding news conferences, and engaging with media for coverage.
– Completing human trafficking online learning modules.
– Participating in Wear Blue Day on January 11 (#WearBlueDay).

Impactful Outreach and Training
This year, the HTAI distributed 38,158 wallet cards, 13,510 window decals, and 1,603 posters. The initiative saw 334 outreach events, 204 presentations, 692 media engagements, and 107 social media posts. CVSA also partnered with the Paramount/CBS network to create public service announcement (PSA) videos featuring a human trafficking survivor, a truck driver, and a commercial vehicle enforcement officer. These PSAs, available in 30-second and five-minute versions, aired on streaming platforms and garnered 15,652,611 impressions.
Continuous Efforts for a Safer Future
From the announcement of this year’s HTAI on November 15, 2023, to the end of March, the CVSA website saw 20,552 views on its Human Trafficking Prevention Program pages. CVSA’s program aims to eliminate human trafficking through coordinated enforcement, investigations, and educational awareness.
